Tunisia secures $144 million for road infrastructure projects
Tunisia has signed two financing agreements totaling 432 million dinars (approximately $144 million) with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) to modernize its national road network.
The first agreement, valued at 288 million dinars, will fund the initial phase of the Boussalem-Fernana road project in northwestern Tunisia. This project includes the construction of roughly 40 kilometers of road, the development of the Jendouba bypass, and the doubling of regional road No. 59. The road is a component of a larger 780-km corridor intended to link with the trans-Maghreb route.
The second agreement, worth 144 million dinars, is designated for the rehabilitation and development of 253 kilometers of rural tracks across 21 governorates. These projects aim to improve connectivity for rural and inland communities, facilitate agricultural trade, and provide better access to essential services.
The agreements were signed by Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, and AFESD Director General Faouzi Youssef Al-Hunaif. Since 1974, the AFESD has provided nearly 12 billion dinars in financing for various development projects in Tunisia.
