Tunisian public infrastructure development

Overview

The Tunisian government has initiated several efforts to accelerate national infrastructure projects to stimulate economic growth and reduce regional disparities. In early October 2026, the government reviewed progress on six major projects, including the reconstruction of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium, landslide protection for the Sidi Bou Saïd site, and expansions to the Tunis-Carthage International Airport and the Enfidha deep-water port.

By late October 2026, the focus expanded to road modernization through financing agreements with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD). These agreements, totaling approximately $144 million, are designated for the Boussalem-Fernana road project in the northwest and the rehabilitation of 253 kilometers of rural tracks across 21 governorates to improve connectivity and agricultural trade.
