Tunisia sees 10% rise in road fatalities in first half of 2026

From 1 January to 11 July 2026, Tunisia recorded 665 road deaths, a 10.28 % increase over the same period in 2025 when 603 people died. During the same timeframe the number of road accidents fell 19.08 % to 2,388 from 2,951, and the count of injured persons dropped 18.69 % to 3,119 from 3,836.

Driver inattention accounted for 28.48 % of all accidents, while excessive speed was responsible for 22.57 % (339 accidents). Speed was the leading cause of fatal crashes, causing 257 deaths and 751 injuries; inattentiveness caused 98 deaths and 776 injuries. The figures are provisional and updated daily by the National Observatory of Road Safety, which notes that regional rankings are based purely on raw case numbers without demographic adjustments.
