Tunisia customs seize 214 kg of drugs and 17 kg of gold in first half of 2026

Tunisia’s customs authority reported that during the first six months of 2026 it intercepted nearly 17 kg of gold, 72 kg of silver and more than 214 kg of illicit drugs, including 78.4 kg of cocaine, 134.5 kg of cannabis resin, 1.3 kg of marijuana and about 180 000 psychotropic pills. The service also confiscated foreign currency worth roughly 5.5 million dinars, over 1.8 million packs of cigarettes, more than 50 tons of coffee, close to 90 tons of bananas, clothing valued at over 5 million dinars and 1.3 million illegal fireworks.

In a separate operation in Burkina Faso, customs agents at Bittou seized fraudulent goods valued at more than 114 million CFA. The haul comprised 36 870 L of edible oil, 40 750 kg of sugar, 400 kg of wheat flour, dozens of cartons of medicines and herbicides, and 52 800 cigarettes.

Tunisia’s courts have also handed down severe prison terms for drug traffickers, with sentences ranging from 20 to 40 years and fines exceeding 400 000 dinars, underscoring a broader crackdown on narcotics networks.
