Tunisian Stock Exchange resumes trading after technical circuit‑breaker

Trading on the Tunisian Stock Exchange (Bourse de Tunis) restarted on Wednesday after a one‑hour suspension triggered by the market’s rapid decline. The TUNINDEX closed the session up 1.3% with more than 30 million dinars in volume.

Sonia Ben Frej, President of the Exchange’s Board and CEO of BH Invest, said the interruption is a standard risk‑management mechanism, not an exceptional measure, intended to give investors time to reassess orders when the index falls 3% (hour‑long pause) or 5% (full‑day halt). She highlighted the market’s strong recent performance, noting a 60.24% gain year‑to‑date as of July 2026.

Economist Aram Belhadj urged investors to remain calm, describing the circuit‑breaker as a tool that preserves market stability. He emphasized that the current correction is a normal adjustment after a period of strong gains and that the fundamentals of the Tunisian market remain solid.
