Tunisia's CMF reassures investors after Tunindex drop
On 28 July 2026 the benchmark Tunindex on the Tunis Stock Exchange fell sharply, triggering the market’s automatic trading‑halt mechanism. Trading resumed normally the following day.
The Conseil du Marché Financier (CMF) convened a meeting on 29 July at its headquarters with representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Tunisia, listed banks, the Bourse de Tunis, the Banking and Financial Council and the professional association of brokerage intermediaries. The regulator stressed that the suspension is a routine prudential tool used on major exchanges worldwide to curb panic‑driven volatility, give investors time to assess the situation, and protect market integrity.
Participants affirmed that Tunisia’s regulatory and institutional framework is robust enough to absorb short‑term market swings and pledged ongoing coordination and monitoring. Investors were urged to base decisions on economic and financial data rather than rumours.
