Tunisia's Tunindex triggers circuit breaker as aluminum producer reports sharp sales decline
Tunisia Profilés Aluminium (TPR) released its Q2 2026 results showing a 24% drop in revenue year‑on‑year to 48.2 billion dinars, with local sales plunging 30% and exports down 13%. Production fell 27% over the first half of the year, driven by raw‑material shortages linked to geopolitical disruptions in the Gulf region and damage to key aluminium billet suppliers. Despite the downturn, TPR reduced total debt by 42% and maintained its export market share.
Meanwhile, the Tunis Stock Exchange halted trading for one hour on 28 July 2026 after the benchmark Tunindex fell more than 3% during the session. The automatic circuit‑breaker, invoked under Article 3.7 of the market regulations, stops trading for an hour when the index breaches the –3% threshold and may close the market for the day if the decline reaches –5%. The exchange did not disclose the specific cause of the price drop.
