More than 40,000 participants gathered in New York City on September 27, 2026, for the 25th annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk. Despite a driving nor’easter, the sold-out event proceeded through Brooklyn and the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, finishing in Lower Manhattan.

The event honors the memory of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the tunnel with heavy gear to reach the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The run also pays tribute to the 343 FDNY firefighters lost during the attacks, law enforcement officers, civilians, and military service members lost in the Global War on Terror.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation uses the event to provide support, including mortgage relief and direct care, to the families of fallen first responders and military heroes.
