Turespaña Convention highlights sustainable tourism and announces Tarragona as 2027 host
The VI Turespaña Convention concluded in Zaragoza, focusing on internationalization as a driver for transforming Spanish tourism. The event brought together over 500 professionals, including public administrations, businesses, and international tourism organizations, to discuss strategies such as public-private collaboration and the integration of artificial intelligence in tourism marketing.
During the closing session, Secretary of State for Tourism Rosario Sánchez and Turespaña Director General Miguel Sanz announced that Tarragona will host the VII Turespaña Convention in October 2027. The selection highlights Tarragona’s status as a destination combining Mediterranean heritage, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and cultural history.
At the convention, Gimena Llamedo, Vice President of Asturias, advocated for ‘respeturismo’—a model centered on ordered growth, sustainability, and the preservation of regional identity. She noted that Asturias has seen significant growth, with international visitors increasing by 11% and overnight stays rising by nearly 17% between January and August compared to the previous year. This growth is supported by improved connectivity, including high-speed rail and expanded direct flight destinations.
