Turimiquire water system restored to Margarita Island and Sucre

Water supply has been partially restored to Margarita Island and Sucre state via the Turimiquire transfer system, following a seven-month interruption. Governor Marisel Velásquez announced the reactivation of water pumping from the Turimiquire reservoir located in Sucre.

The disruption was caused by a rockslide following a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, which obstructed 82% of a key pipeline's diameter. This reduced water flow from 5,000 to 1,000 liters per second, leading to a water emergency in the region and requiring assistance from the Red Cross and the United Nations.

Distribution will occur in stages, beginning with the Tubores municipality. The service will then expand to the jurisdictions of Díaz, Marcano, García, and Gómez. While the reactivation aims to reduce supply cycles, the long-term stability of the system remains a concern due to previous infrastructure failures.
