Turkcell tests 6G sensing technology in Istanbul

Turkcell has conducted field tests for Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology, a key component of the upcoming 6G era. The tests were carried out at the Istanbul Expo Center and Turkcell Küçükyalı Plaza using Tiami Networks’ PolyEdge solution.

By analyzing changes in 5G signals, the technology was able to detect human density with 90 percent accuracy without the use of cameras. Additionally, the system could estimate an individual's location with a precision of up to 3 meters.

The research, conducted using a Mobile Private Network (MPN) solution, demonstrates how existing C-band 5G infrastructure can be utilized for sensing scenarios such as human presence detection and facility security. This development aims to prepare for future 6G use cases where mobile networks provide environmental awareness in addition to data connectivity.
