Turkey 6G technology development and testing

Overview

Turkey has undertaken several field tests to advance domestic 6G network capabilities. Initial efforts by Turkcell and TÜBİTAK focused on testing domestically developed smart surface technologies. These tests, conducted at Turkcell Kartal Plaza and the TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus, utilized prototype equipment to demonstrate how static and adaptive smart surfaces can improve signal performance and coverage in dense urban or indoor environments.

Subsequent testing by Turkcell expanded into Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technology. Using the Tiami Networks PolyEdge solution at the Istanbul Expo Center and Turkcell Küçükyalı Plaza, researchers utilized existing C-band 5G infrastructure to detect human density with 90 percent accuracy without cameras. The system also demonstrated the ability to estimate individual locations with a precision of up to 3 meters, showcasing how future 6G networks may provide environmental awareness alongside data connectivity.
