Turkey advances COP31 preparations through urban and scientific initiatives

Preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), which will be hosted in Antalya, Turkey, in November 2026, are underway through various regional and academic initiatives.

In Malatya, an international summit titled “Developing Climate-Resilient Cities in the Process of Heading to COP31: From Commitments to Action” was held. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, ILBANK, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the meeting brought together representatives from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Sami Er presented major projects involving wastewater treatment, green transformation, and electric transportation to international investors.

Simultaneously, Bartın University (BARÜ) is contributing to the COP31 process through six scientific projects selected under a Higher Education Council (YÖK) call. These projects focus on diverse areas including carbon dioxide removal from natural gas, flood and water scarcity risk mitigation, food security, forest fire mapping, green logistics planning, and inclusive climate change education.
