Turkey advances Gölecik Dam project in Bursa, aiming to irrigate 45,870 dekar and add 640 million lira to the economy

The State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) is accelerating construction of the Gölecik Dam in the Karacabey district of Bursa, Turkey. Work on the dam body has reached 83% physical completion, with concrete pours, injection, drainage galleries and related structures progressing.

When finished, the reservoir will enable modern irrigation for 45,870 dekar of agricultural land and provide the surrounding community with about 7.44 million m³ of drinking and domestic water each year. The project, valued at roughly 640 million lira, is expected to generate an equivalent annual contribution to the national economy through increased agricultural productivity. Additional infrastructure, such as the Kadıdere regulator and transmission line, has been completed to ensure water delivery to the basin.

DSİ Director Mehmet Akif Balta highlighted that the dam will strengthen sustainable farming in the region and secure water supply for both agriculture and municipal use, marking a major step toward long‑term economic growth in Bursa.
