Turkey advances major transportation and tunnel infrastructure projects

Turkey is advancing several major transportation infrastructure projects aimed at reducing travel times and improving year-round accessibility in difficult terrains.

In Van, technical studies and drilling have commenced for a 13-kilometer tunnel designed to connect Van and Bahçesaray. The project, initiated under instructions from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, aims to prevent seasonal road closures caused by heavy snow and avalanche risks at high altitudes.

In the Antalya-Konya region, work continues on the Alacabel Tunnel. Once completed, the project is expected to shorten the travel distance by 7 kilometers and reduce travel time between Konya and Antalya by 20 minutes, while also providing significant fuel and time savings.

Additionally, the Ankara-İzmir High-Speed Train (YHT) project is underway. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the new line will reduce the Ankara-İzmir journey from 14 hours to 3.5 hours. This development could theoretically allow travel from Yozgat to İzmir in approximately 5.5 hours via Ankara.

Other regional developments include large-scale expropriation works in Konya to create new roads and green spaces, and asphalt paving on Kozluca Boulevard in Bursa to improve connectivity between İnegöl and Alanyurt.
