Turkey moves forward on PKK disarmament law with 9‑point draft

Turkey’s security bureaucracy held a three‑hour meeting with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island on 24 May, focusing on a proposed legal framework to manage the group’s disarmament. The draft, expected to contain nine articles, would define the PKK, set a one‑year probation period for former fighters who lay down arms, and impose a five‑year political ban on ex‑members.
