Turkey advances space program with lunar vehicle and satellite tech
Turkey is advancing its national space program through the development of a domestic lunar vehicle and specialized satellite technologies. The first lunar vehicle, which has a domestic content rate exceeding 80 percent, has completed production, assembly, and integration. It has been sent to the TUSAŞ Space Systems Integration and Test Center for environmental testing, with a launch target set for 2027. This mission aims to test hybrid propulsion technology in deep space and develop capabilities for deep space communication and mission management.
In addition to large-scale projects like the lunar vehicle, the Turkish space ecosystem is growing through specialized private sector contributions. Companies such as Opsin Elektro Optik Sistemler are producing high-precision star tracker systems, which use cameras and star catalogs to determine a spacecraft's orientation. These systems are among a limited number of such technologies produced globally. Other key players contributing to this growing ecosystem include DeltaV, Plan-S, TÜBİTAK UZAY, TUSAŞ, and ASELSAN, covering areas from hybrid rocket motors to space electronics.
