Turkey advances wastewater and drinking water treatment facilities

In Şanlıurfa's Birecik district, the municipal water and sewerage authority is constructing a wastewater treatment plant covering about 51,000 m². When completed, the facility will handle 18,360 m³ of sewage per day, roughly 65 million m³ per year, to reduce environmental pollution and protect groundwater and surface‑water sources.

In Bursa, the newly finished Çınarcık drinking‑water treatment plant has begun operations. To integrate the treated water into existing supply networks, authorities scheduled extensive works on 8 July 2026, causing planned water interruptions across several neighborhoods in Nilüfer, Mudanya, Karacabey and surrounding districts. Residents were warned to take precautionary measures during the cut periods.
