Turkey advances water security through new dam projects

Infrastructure projects aimed at securing water supplies are progressing in different regions of Turkey. In Sakarya, the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ) has begun engineering and design studies for the Ortaköy Dam on the Darıçayırı Stream. The project is intended to meet the rising drinking water demands of the northern districts, such as Karasu and Kocaali, particularly during the summer tourism season, and will also supply water to a new industrial site.

In Aydın, construction of the Sarıçay Dam in the Söke district has reached a significant milestone. The dam body's embankment work is 92% complete, with 1,505,000 cubic meters of the planned 1,632,000 cubic meters of fill already finished. Once completed, the dam is expected to have a storage capacity of 66 million cubic meters, providing drinking and usage water for approximately 303,160 people, including residents of Kuşadası and Söke.
