Turkey and Egypt seal defence cooperation pact

Turkey and Egypt signed two letters of intent during the Egyptian defence minister’s visit to Ankara, establishing a framework for expanded military and defence‑industry collaboration. The agreements cover joint development of defence capabilities, including a $350 million programme to produce artillery ammunition and a short‑range air‑defence system, and lay the groundwork for Egypt’s participation in Turkey’s indigenous stealth‑fighter project.

The Turkish Defence Industry President Haluk Görgün hosted the talks and the parties also discussed joint exercises, with Egyptian and Turkish crews training together and participating in regional drills such as Anatolian Eagle and Golden Eagle 2026. The deeper partnership is presented as a step toward turning Egypt into a manufacturing hub for Turkish equipment and strengthening regional security amid a growing North‑African arms race.
