Turkey and Iraq foreign ministers meet in Ankara to boost cooperation

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hüseyin in Ankara. The two officials discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, transport and security.

Both ministers emphasized the strategic “Development Road” (Kalkınma Yolu) project, describing it as a vision to link Turkey and Iraq and foster regional prosperity. Fidan stated that Turkey does not view Iraq’s stability and security as separate from its own, underscoring a shared commitment to mutual trust and development along the border. The dialogue also covered broader regional and international developments.

The meeting signals an effort to turn the Turkey‑Iraq border into an area of regional cooperation and shared economic growth.
