Turkey and Libya strengthen security partnership in Ankara talks

Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi hosted Libyan Interior Minister Imad Trabelsi at the Ministry of Interior in Ankara, where the two discussed bilateral relations, security cooperation, the police‑cooperation memorandum, the police support mission and measures to combat irregular migration. The meeting highlighted the historic ties between the two nations and the desire to expand coordination between law‑enforcement agencies, including joint training programmes by the Turkish Gendarmerie and Coast Guard in Libya.

In parallel, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met a senior Libyan delegation that included Deputy Defence Minister Abdulsalam al‑Zoubi, National Security Adviser Ibrahim Dbeibeh and Defence Minister Abdüsselam Zubi. The talks covered developments in Libya, steps to deepen Turkish‑Libyan cooperation and Turkey’s continued support for Libya’s territorial and political unity, including efforts to bring the rival eastern and western administrations under a single national framework. Libyan officials expressed appreciation for Turkey’s assistance in security, counter‑terrorism, human‑trafficking and migration control, and affirmed the intention to further strengthen joint actions.
