Turkey-Libya bilateral cooperation expansion
Overview
Turkey and Libya have expanded their bilateral relations through new security and labor agreements.
In early August, Turkish and Libyan interior ministers met in Ankara to discuss security cooperation, police-cooperation memorandums, and measures to combat irregular migration. The discussions included potential joint training programs involving the Turkish Gendarmerie and Coast Guard. High-level Turkish officials also met with a Libyan delegation to discuss deepening cooperation and Turkey’s support for Libya’s territorial and political unity.
Following these security talks, the two nations signed a memorandum of understanding focused on labor and employment. This agreement, finalized between the Turkish Minister of Labour and Social Security and Libya’s Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation, aims to enhance cooperation in vocational training, occupational health and safety, and social security through a joint working commission.
