Turkey and Northern Cyprus Issue Storm and Heavy Rain Warnings

Turkey's Meteorology General Directorate released yellow alerts for multiple provinces, including Istanbul, Bursa, Balıkesir and other Marmara and North‑Aegean areas. The agency warned of strong local thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail and wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, which could cause flash flooding, landslides and traffic disruptions. Residents were urged to stay informed, avoid open areas during lightning, and drive cautiously.

The Turkish‑Cypriot Meteorology Department in Northern Cyprus also issued a yellow warning for local downpours and occasional hail between 11:00 and 18:00. The alert highlighted the possibility of intense rainfall exceeding 35 mm per hour in mountainous southeast and interior regions, with south‑west and north‑west winds at light to moderate speeds. Temperatures were forecast to rise to the mid‑30s °C, followed by partly sunny conditions later in the week.
