Turkey anticipates record grain harvest in 2025‑2026 season

Prof. Dr. Süleyman Soylu of the National Grain Council said that the 2025‑2026 grain season could deliver the highest wheat and barley harvest in the Republic's history. Thanks to a 76% increase in rainfall compared with the previous year and more uniform distribution, the country expects wheat output of 24‑24.5 million tonnes and barley of 9‑10 million tonnes, a roughly 40 % rise over the 2023‑2024 season.

The cultivated area is projected to expand by 300‑400 k ha, reaching about 7.4‑7.5 million hectares, up from 7.1 million ha in 2025. Soylu described the conditions as potentially occurring only once every 60‑70 years, highlighting the positive impact on national food security and farmer incomes.
