2026 record grain, grape, and sunflower harvests in China/TR

Overview

China’s summer grain harvest in early July 2026 reached a historic 150.75 million tonnes, the first time output exceeded 150 million tonnes. In Turkey, the 2025–2026 season has seen record production driven by favorable rainfall. Barley production is projected to rise 50% to 9 million tons, while wheat yields are expected to reach a record 24.5 million tons. Following intensive procurement, the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has begun supplying products to the market to balance supply and demand. Initial sales of low-quality wheat and barley have opened through TÜRİB to support the livestock feed market. As of mid-September 2026, corn harvesting is approximately 20 percent complete nationwide. In Konya, the TMO has completed the purchase of approximately 2 million tons of grain across 92 locations using a digital appointment system. The agency has also begun purchasing poppy seeds and is preparing for green lentil acquisitions. In the raisin sector, the TMO set intervention purchase prices for seedless dried raisins between 85 TL and 100 TL per kilogram. While some producers in Manisa’s Alaşehir district welcomed these rates, others expressed concerns regarding the lack of specified purchase volumes. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı recently announced that the TMO has reached a historic milestone by purchasing 12.3 million tons of grain, totaling 180 billion lira in payments to farmers. He also projected total plant production to exceed 140 million tons this year and maintained that grape production will reach 3.85 million tons. Regarding livestock, Yumaklı announced the elimination of vaccination and identification fees for breeders. However, a Sayıştay audit revealed that approximately 2.5 million cattle and 35 million small ruminants lack mandatory vaccination records in the TÜRKVET system, and noted that pasture improvement funds remained largely unutilized in municipal accounts.
