Turkey car market contracts 9.8% in H1 2026 as hybrid sales surge

In the first six months of 2026, Turkey’s automotive market recorded a 9.8% year‑on‑year decline, with total passenger‑car sales falling to 440,234 units and light‑commercial‑vehicle sales down 1.69% to 117,945 units. Hybrid vehicles led the growth segment, with 145,804 units sold – a 6% increase – raising their market share from 28.2% to 33.1%. Fully electric cars accounted for 80,709 units, representing 18.5% of total sales, though EV volumes slipped 5.3% from the previous year. Together, electric and hybrid models made up 51.6% of all vehicles sold.

The market was dominated by SUV/CUV body types (64.6% of sales) and featured intense competition: 46 brands offered 294 different models, yet the top ten models delivered 34.4% of total volume. Renault’s Clio was the best‑selling model, followed by the Renault Megane Sedan and Toyota Corolla. The most popular electric model was the domestic Togg T10X. Despite the overall slowdown, hybrid and electric segments continued to expand, indicating a shift in consumer preferences toward newer power‑train technologies.
