Turkey automotive exports slip 15% to 373,825 units in Jan‑May 2024

The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) reported that Turkey’s total vehicle production fell 10% year‑on‑year to 538,718 units in the January‑May period, with passenger‑car output down 20% to 301,367 units. Production of tractors increased slightly, bringing total vehicle output to 547,115 units. Capacity utilisation across the sector averaged 61%.

Vehicle exports also declined, with overall export volume dropping 15% to 373,825 units. Passenger‑car exports fell 29%, while commercial‑vehicle exports rose 5% and tractor exports jumped 20% to 5,149 units. In dollar terms, total automotive export value rose 2% to $16.6 billion, driven by a modest increase in overall industrial export values. Car export revenue fell 8% to $4.4 billion, and the domestic share of car sales remained at 35%. The automotive sector retained its leading position in Turkey’s export basket, accounting for 18% of total exports.
