Turkey automotive market shifts to electric and hybrid models
The Turkish automotive market is experiencing a significant shift toward electrification despite an overall contraction in sales. According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), electric and hybrid models accounted for 51.9% of all car sales in the first nine months of the year, totaling 326,035 units.
While total passenger car sales fell by 15.45% year-on-year to 627,977 units during this period, the market share of electric vehicles rose to 19.3% and hybrids to 32.6%. In September 2026, the market saw a sharper decline, with car sales dropping 27.8% compared to the previous year, yet fully electric vehicle sales grew by 18.6%, reaching a 23.7% market share.
Togg has emerged as a dominant player in this transition. The T10X model led the market in September with 4,237 units sold, followed by the Togg T10F in fourth place. To support demand, Togg announced a financing campaign for October, offering 0% interest loans for amounts up to 1.5 million TL on its T10F and T10X models.
Industry experts note that limited access to credit is a primary challenge for the middle-income segment, contributing to the market slowdown. Meanwhile, the share of diesel vehicles continues to decline as global manufacturers phase out diesel production.
