Turkey bans forest entry in Kilis and Tekirdağ amid fire risk

The governors of the Turkish provinces of Kilis and Tekirdağ have issued temporary bans on all public access to forested areas to curb the risk of wildfires. In Kilis, entry to any forest zone is prohibited from 10 June to 31 October 2026, while in Tekirdağ the restriction runs from 12 June to 15 October 2026.

Both orders forbid picnicking, campfires, the use of grills, burning of agricultural waste, and any other activities that could ignite a fire. Violators may face administrative or criminal penalties under the 6831 Forest Law and related Turkish codes. Enforcement will involve municipal crews, forest guard units, and police patrols, with special measures such as establishing protection belts, readying fire‑fighting equipment, and monitoring nearby industrial facilities and power‑line maintenance.
