Turkey Bar Association President calls for fair trial in Ekrem İmamoğlu case
Turkey Bar Association President Erinç Sağkan visited detained Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in Marmara Prison and said recent procedural limits on the defence in the İBB trial violate the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights. He urged that the trial be conducted in full compliance with fair‑trial standards and pledged continued monitoring of the case.
Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz submitted an appeal to the 33rd Heavy Criminal Court contesting recent restrictions on defence time and the way detainment reviews were handled. Citing the massive 4,000‑page indictment, hundreds of defendants and the Ergenekon jurisprudence, Ersöz argued that the measures breach fair‑trial rights and asked the court to overturn the restrictions.
