Turkey prepares for 2026-2027 academic year with new schools and support

Turkey is preparing for the 2026-2027 academic year with various educational initiatives and infrastructure updates. The Ministry of National Education has released the official calendar, noting that the first term begins on September 14, 2026, with scheduled breaks in November and January.

In Istanbul, the Governor's Office announced the opening of 83 new schools and 2,210 new classrooms, which has helped reduce the dual-shift education rate from 26% in 2023 to 18%. Ongoing projects include the construction of 130 schools and the planning of 160 others to move toward a single-shift system.

Various social and financial support programs are being implemented across the country. The Sabancı Foundation has opened applications for university scholarships, while local municipalities in Bodrum, Denizli, Bayraklı, and Yeşilyurt are providing stationery kits, bursaries, and academic support to students. Additionally, the Ministry has initiated an e-exam assignment process for teachers, offering compensation for salon presidents and proctors.
