Turkey boosts livestock sector with cattle grant and small‑ruminant credit program

In Tokat’s Niksar district, farmer Kamil Numan Zengin received a 9 million‑lira grant from the Tarım ve Kırsal Kalkınmayı Destekleme Kurumu (TKDK) to build a new 1,000 m² cattle barn. The project, costing 14 million lira with 70 % funded by the agency, allowed him to increase his herd from 10 to 30 large‑cattle, and he now processes milk into cheese, butter and curd.

Separately, the Kastamonu provincial administration signed an additional protocol with Ziraat Bank’s Zonguldak branch, expanding subsidised credit for small‑ruminant farmers to 2 million lira. The “Köyümde Yaşamak İçin Bir Sürü Nedenim Var” project raises the previous limit of 1.2 million lira, aiming to help producers acquire up to 100 sheep or goats, strengthen family farms and revive the region’s pastoral resources.
