Istanbul prosecutors investigate Borsa Istanbul market manipulation
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting a large-scale investigation into capital market manipulation and money laundering within Borsa Istanbul. The probe targets 46 legal entities, 18 funds, and 42 individuals suspected of driving artificial price increases in certain stocks by up to 100 times through collective fund purchases.
Prosecutors have requested detailed data on money and cryptocurrency transfers made by company executives to foreign countries since 2024. While asset freezing measures were initially applied to various companies and funds, the Capital Markets Board (SPK) has recently lifted some of these restrictions following new evaluations. However, measures against specific individuals remain in place.
Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş addressed the situation, describing it as a highly sensitive issue affecting a large number of investors. He emphasized that those who gained unfair profits through speculation must be held accountable, stating that the matter is also one of economic security. The investigation aims to prevent the dissipation of assets and protect the rights of victims.
