Turkey's Central Bank Keeps Policy Rate at 37% Amid Rising Reserves
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) announced that it left its one‑week repo rate unchanged at 37 percent, matching economists’ expectations. The decision referenced continued inflation pressures from volatile energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty, and the bank reiterated its commitment to a tight monetary stance until price stability is achieved.
In the same week, TCMB reported that its total foreign‑exchange reserves rose by $198 million to $159.4 billion, with gross foreign‑exchange holdings increasing to $54.25 billion. However, gold reserves fell by $822 million, dropping to $105.17 billion, which partially offset the overall reserve growth.
