Turkey coffee consumption approaches 2.5 kg per person by 2026
Turkey’s per‑capita coffee intake has surged from roughly 350‑400 g in the early 2010s to about 1.5 kg today, according to industry analyst Niyazi Çoşkunsoy. Projections put consumption at 2.2‑2.5 kg per person by 2026, making coffee a fast‑growing beverage in a market traditionally dominated by tea.
The rise is credited to the expansion of chain coffee shops, increased e‑commerce access to specialty beans, and growing ownership of home‑brew equipment. Lavazza chairman Giuseppe Lavazza noted that “people now want café‑quality coffee at home,” reflecting a shift toward whole‑bean purchases and premium machines as global coffee prices climb. Sales of whole‑bean coffee grew double‑digit percentages in several European markets, while automatic coffee‑machine sales rose over 30 %. These trends suggest Turkish consumers are joining a broader move toward higher‑quality, home‑based coffee consumption.
