Turkey conducts nationwide disaster awareness activities

In observance of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on October 13, various regions across Turkey held extensive awareness programs and training sessions to enhance public preparedness and resilience.

In Manisa, officials held workshops to finalize the 2027-2031 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (IRAP), focusing on earthquake risks and capacity analysis. Meanwhile, in Istanbul, the Maltepe Municipality reported that 800 volunteers completed field training to join neighborhood disaster teams, following online training provided to 5,000 people.

Other regional activities included simulation-based earthquake training for students in Ankara, public awareness stands at universities and shopping centers in Yozgat, and practical demonstrations of emergency kit preparation and search-and-rescue equipment in Aydın and İzmir. These efforts, coordinated by AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), aim to foster a culture of prevention and ensure citizens know correct behaviors during emergencies.
