Turkey conducts major operations against illegal betting and money laundering
Turkish authorities have conducted extensive operations targeting illegal betting, money laundering, and cybercrime. In a coordinated effort involving the General Directorate of Security, MASAK, and various prosecutor's offices, operations across 27 provinces resulted in the arrest of 303 suspects and judicial control for 151 others. These activities included illegal gambling, phishing, and unauthorized access to mobile banking accounts.
In a separate investigation involving 16 provinces, 29 suspects were arrested for facilitating money transfers to illegal betting sites. Financial analysis revealed a total movement of approximately 6.235 billion Turkish Liras between 2023 and 2025 across 722,235 transactions.
A Kırıkkale-centered operation targeting an organized crime group uncovered a money laundering scheme involving over 1.219 billion Turkish Liras. The group allegedly used stolen personal data to open bank accounts and laundered funds through cryptocurrency platforms. This operation led to 11 arrests.
Additionally, an indictment has been prepared against 44 managers of Papel Elektronik Para ve Ödeme Hizmetleri A. Ş. following allegations that the company's systems were used as a payment method for illegal betting platforms. A whistleblower claimed that many users were unaware their accounts were being utilized for these transactions.
