Turkey conducts migrant smuggling operations across 23 provinces

Turkish authorities conducted large-scale operations across 23 provinces to combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking. Coordinated by the Ministry of Interior, the raids involved the Gendarmerie General Command and the Coast Guard Command, utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for aerial surveillance alongside land-based commando and highway teams.

The operations resulted in the apprehension of 48 migrant smuggling organizers. Following judicial proceedings, 31 suspects were arrested, while 17 others were placed under judicial control. Law enforcement also seized 83 vehicles, 18 boats, and boat motors believed to be used in smuggling activities.

In a separate incident in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale, Coast Guard teams intercepted a rubber boat in the North Aegean. The operation led to the rescue of 32 irregular migrants, including 15 children, who were subsequently transferred to the Ayvacık Migrant Pre-Acceptance and Referral Center.
