Turkey conducts nationwide stationery inspections ahead of new school year

Turkish authorities have launched widespread inspections of stationery stores across multiple provinces, including Istanbul, Trabzon, Ordu, Kahramanmaraş, Samsun, Adana, Gaziantep, and İzmir, ahead of the new academic year. The Ministry of Trade is monitoring businesses to prevent unfair price increases, ensure price tag accuracy between shelves and cash registers, and verify product safety standards.

In Istanbul, inspections of 885 businesses resulted in administrative sanctions totaling approximately 997,223 TL due to price discrepancies. In Kahramanmaraş, 21 firms were fined 158,920 TL. Other regions reported similar enforcement actions to protect consumer interests and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Simultaneously, new price ceilings for school canteens in Istanbul have been established. The Istanbul Chamber of Canteen Operators reported a modest overall increase of 6.8%. Under the new tariff, a toast and ayran combo is priced at 130 TL, chicken doner at 145 TL, and three-course school meals at 245 TL.
