Turkey creates 6,250 new police positions and centralizes cadre control
According to Presidential Decrees No. 199 and 200 published in the Official Gazette on August 9, 2026, new regulations have been established regarding public personnel and staffing management.
Decree No. 199 creates 6,250 new positions for the General Directorate of Security. The central organization will see the addition of 1,550 roles, including 925 chief inspectors, 200 central police managers, and 425 police chiefs. The provincial organization will add 4,700 roles, comprising 500 computer operators and 4,200 police chiefs.
Decree No. 200 grants the Presidency the authority to freeze or release empty positions within public institutions and organizations. Additionally, the Presidency is empowered to assign unique identification codes to each individual cadre and position to improve centralized monitoring and oversight of public employment.
