Turkey cultural heritage assets increase to 130,632
According to 2025 cultural heritage statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of immovable cultural assets in Turkey has increased by 2.6 percent compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 130,632.
In the province of Van, the combined number of immovable cultural assets and protected sites rose by approximately 4.4 percent, increasing from 476 in 2024 to 497 in 2025. Specifically, the number of immovable cultural assets in Van grew from 282 to 291. The province recorded 205 protected sites, all of which are classified as archaeological sites, along with one historical site.
Nationwide, Istanbul holds the highest number of immovable cultural assets with 34,558, followed by Izmir with 8,120 and Muğla with 5,332. The total number of protected sites in Turkey also saw a 6 percent increase, rising to 27,703, with archaeological sites accounting for 97.1 percent of that total.
