Overview
Data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) regarding 2025 cultural heritage statistics shows growth in both tourism and the preservation of historical assets. Total visitors to museums and archaeological sites reached approximately 65.9 million, a 6.8 percent increase from the previous year. Istanbul recorded the highest visitor numbers at over 18.3 million.
The number of museums in Turkey rose to 664, while the total number of immovable cultural assets increased by 2.6 percent to 130,632. Protected sites nationwide also saw a 6 percent increase, totaling 27,703, with archaeological sites making up 97.1 percent of that figure. Regional data highlights include Istanbul holding the most immovable assets (34,558), followed by Izmir and Muğla, while the province of Van saw a 4.4 percent rise in its combined count of protected sites and assets.
