Turkey delivers thousands of homes in post‑earthquake reconstruction

In Kocaeli, the Cedit Urban Transformation Project—Turkey’s largest redevelopment effort—allocated 1,097 newly built homes and eight commercial units to applicants during a key ceremony attended by Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum and Mayor Tahir Büyükakın. The project, which began after the 2015 risk‑area designation of İzmit’s Cedit neighbourhood, features 47 blocks with wide streets, social facilities and earthquake‑resistant construction, and fixes payment prices at 2023 rates.

In Elazığ, permanent housing construction continues 3½ years after the February 2023 earthquakes. Under the “Age of Construction” programme coordinated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister Kurum, 14,894 city‑center apartments have been handed over, while 4,118 rural homes—2,764 concrete‑frame and 1,354 steel‑frame—are under way. Nationwide, 453,000 homes have now been completed for residents of the eleven provinces most affected by the disaster. Local officials emphasized the goal of rapidly providing safe, resilient dwellings for earthquake survivors.
