Turkey begins serial production of domestic high-speed trains

Turkey has entered the serial production phase for its domestic high-speed train project. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that production of the second Milli Hızlı Tren set has begun, following successful testing of the first set which reached speeds of 250 km/h during safety trials.

Developed by TÜRASAŞ with critical components like the Train Control and Management System and Traction System designed in collaboration with ASELSAN, the 8-car train sets have a capacity of 577 passengers. The government aims to produce 14 sets over the next two years, with 7 sets scheduled for 2027 and 7 for 2028.

To support this production, a new 18,000-square-meter high-speed train factory in Sakarya is nearing completion, with construction currently at 90 percent. Once operational, the facility is expected to have the capacity to produce one high-speed train per month, integrating production, assembly, and testing under one roof.

Additionally, a presidential decree has designated the Kütahya-Balıkesir railway line as a regional route for passenger transport under public service obligations. This 252-kilometer line is part of a broader effort to maintain essential rail connections in the region.
