Turkey emphasizes space and AI technology for economic growth

Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Obdan Kacır highlighted the strategic importance of the space and artificial intelligence sectors during recent industry events. At the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, co-hosted by the Turkish Space Agency and SAHA Istanbul, Kacır noted that the global space economy is projected to exceed $1.8 trillion by 2035.

Kacır emphasized Turkey's growing capabilities in space technology, stating that the country is among 11 nations capable of producing communication satellites. He noted that Turkey has developed critical components for its earth observation satellites, including electro-optical cameras, flight computers, and electric propulsion systems, using domestic resources.

Speaking at a summit on artificial intelligence security and economic value, Kacır addressed the transformative impact of AI, which could contribute up to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy. He warned of the risks associated with technological polarization, noting that countries failing to develop their own digital infrastructure and models risk becoming mere providers of raw data for others' algorithms. He stressed that while AI offers immense opportunities for public services and economic efficiency, human moral responsibility remains paramount.
