Turkey emphasizes water security at Cairo Water Week
Turkish Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ebubekir Gizligider, highlighted the critical link between water security, food security, and climate resilience during the Cairo Water Week in Egypt. Speaking at the international platform, Gizligider stated that food security and climate resilience cannot be sustained without ensuring water security, advocating for water to be placed at the center of agricultural and climate policies.
Gizligider noted that Turkey is implementing this approach through agricultural production planning based on water availability, modern irrigation systems, and a Water Efficiency Mobilization. He emphasized the importance of technical cooperation and dialogue among riparian countries, based on mutual trust and the unique conditions of each basin.
In domestic developments, Turkey's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry reported that precipitation levels for the 2025-2026 water year reached 741.6 mm, marking a 66-year high. This increase, which is 29% above normal, has improved water reserves and provided favorable conditions for the start of the new agricultural production season. Authorities will continue to monitor meteorological conditions, soil moisture, and regional drought risks closely.
