Egypt and Turkey water and food security cooperation

Overview

During Cairo Water Week, Turkish Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ebubekir Gizligider advocated for placing water security at the center of agricultural and climate policies. He noted that Turkey is implementing water availability based production planning and modern irrigation systems. Gizligider also highlighted the importance of technical cooperation and dialogue among riparian countries based on mutual trust.

Following this, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, participated in the 17th Bosphorus Summit in Istanbul. During a panel on the global crisis of water, food, and agricultural security, Farouk identified food security as a fundamental pillar of national and international stability. He cited geopolitical conflicts and supply chain disruptions as major impacts and called for enhanced international cooperation, modern technologies, and artificial intelligence to improve agricultural efficiency.
