Turkey endures 42°C heat wave and widespread rainstorm warnings

Meteorology reports that temperatures across Turkey are soaring, with highs of 42 °C forecast for southeastern provinces such as Diyarbakır and Batman, while many regions experience temperatures in the high 30s. Simultaneously, the agency warns of local heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds (up to 60 km/h) affecting the north, including Marmara, the Black Sea coast and parts of Central Anatolia. Experts, such as dietitian Pakize Gizem Akgül, stress that water intake is essential and that dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, blood‑pressure problems and heatstroke. They advise drinking 2 L per day for women and 2.5 L for men, avoiding excessive coffee, tea or sugary drinks, and being cautious with ice‑filled beverages. Regional forecasts detail specific conditions: Kırıkkale sees a drop from 35 °C to 18 °C at night, Bursa faces isolated thunderstorms, the Ege region expects strong northerly winds, and the Black Sea coast may see sudden showers. Authorities urge citizens, especially the elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses, to stay indoors during peak heat, seek shade, and follow official weather updates.
