Turkey establishes new framework for PKK disarmament

Turkey has implemented a new legal framework to manage the disarmament of the PKK. Following the enactment of the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, a Monitoring, Coordination, and Implementation Board has been established to oversee the process.

The Board is scheduled to hold its first meeting this coming Monday. Its primary responsibility will be to conduct field assessments and verification work regarding the surrender of weapons. To prevent the transfer of arms to other regions or terrorist groups, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) will supervise the handover of weapons and ammunition to the Ministry of National Defense (MSB).

A three-stage method has been developed to handle the surrendered inventory:

1. Unused, NATO-compatible conventional weapons and advanced drone systems may be integrated into the Turkish Armed Forces inventory after inspection.

2. Weapons deemed unsuitable for military use but possessing recycling value will be melted down or recycled to contribute to the economy.

3. [The third stage was not fully detailed in the provided text].

All surrendered materials will be officially recorded and cross-referenced with existing intelligence reports to ensure no discrepancies exist in the quantities provided.
